I am just about to see an end to the slow season for weddings as we approach May and June, but I wanted to put up a post for those who follow my work – just in case you thought I disappeared!

Every once in a while, I come across a photo that I captured from a wedding a few years back (in this case, 09/2008), that I had forgotten about. In my last post, I spoke about the various elements that I believe make a good documentary photo and how I strive to find those elements in each of my photographs. I also spoke of a forth element, saying “It’s difficult to describe what makes up the fourth element, but it is that “something” that draws you into the photo, a story that is either conveyed concretely or, perhaps, not so concretely, but lingers as a mystery that causes you to stop, stare, and wonder.” The following photograph is an image, that in my humble opinion, is one that possesses the forth element. Again, it is difficult for me to describe why, but the word “timeless” is what is in my thoughts when I look at it.

Kelly’s Detroit Yacht Club wedding was beautiful and she was a beautiful bride. I remember being struck by the closeness of her family. Because she and her father are silhouetted by the window light, you would never know the identity of the bride unless she told you or showed you her wedding photos. I think that might be one of the reasons this image takes on a life of it’s own. It could be any bride with her father. These final moments before her father would walk her down the aisle almost provide the feeling that there is no other moment more precious than this: the anxious bride with the man who provided and protected her all these years to bring her to this very time of handing her off to the one who would replace him as the man of her life: her groom. I am especially sensitive to father/daughter relationships because I have two daughters. One is married and I could not photograph her wedding because I was afraid I would be too emotional. So an image like this speaks to me directly.

The funny thing is that I had forgotten about this photograph. I don’t think I have ever showcased it on my blog or in a photo contest. To me, this just proves my point all the more: a photo that has this forth element is “timeless.” It maintains its beauty or significance over time and represents something deep about the human spirit. It’s appeal is like a fine wine that matures with time. Do you agree?

I have had a few former clients get selected for the wedding section of Town and Country Magazine. Only a select few are actually chosen to have their announcement published. The latest of my fortunate couples to be selected is Kara and Patrick Howe! They were married June 21, 2008 at St. Hugo’s Catholic Church and their reception was held at Bloomfield Hills Country Club, both located in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Congrats Kara and Patrick! I am thrilled for you! You can see their photo in the latest edition of Town and Country on the news stands. Check out the wedding section.

One of the beautiful weddings I photographed last summer (2008), was selected for the Real Weddings section of the latest edition of The Knot Magazine. Today, the Knot.com decided to feature Shilpa and Anthony Fugolo’s wedding as the Real Wedding of the Week! Click here to see!  Their entire wedding was held at The Dearborn Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI.

One of the beautiful weddings I photographed last summer (2008), was selected for the Real Weddings section of the latest edition of The Knot Magazine. I have been fortunate to have at least one wedding published each year for the last five years. You can check out the article of Shilpa & Anthony’s beautiful wedding below:

I am in the process of deciding NEW slideshow options.  The biggest problem I have had over the years is finding a company that can make both an online slideshow and a duplicate DVD slideshow that I can provide my clients.  The following is from a company that would be able to provide this for me!  My question to you is: what do you think? Do you like it?  Is it appealing or too distracting with the graphics?  The music is just a sample.  I would not usually use it for a wedding but thought it was fun for this showing of my “favorites” from my 2008 brides and grooms.

Click HERE to view the show!  It will only be online for three months from this day.

The photos in this slideshow represent what I am passionate about: documenting wedding stories. Some of the photos are included in my “thank you” post to my 2008 brides and grooms. In that post, I wanted to show great photos that of each client. The images in this show are more emblematic of what I try to find as a photojournalist each wedding. I love to anticipate and capture “moments” as opposed to setting up and posing a couple. I love spontaneity, real emotion, artistic angles and interesting lighting, photographs that speak a thousand words! These are my absolute favorite photos of 2008. Not every wedding from 2008 is shown. I had a difficult time narrowing my selections down to 250 images to fit the length of the music. Enjoy!

2008 was my most successful year since beginning Ray Anthony Photography. How fitting to be able to make this my first entry on my new Blog and to kick off the 2009 wedding season! All of my clients, since beginning Ray Anthony Photography in 2002, have been a huge reason for my success. My 2008 bride and grooms allowed me to be at my best and to grow in my artistic and photojournalistic skills! The following photos are favorites of each wedding that provide a glimpse to the personalities of these wonder bride and grooms! Again, thank you 2008 Bride & Grooms for a successful year!!!
